NESS CITY — A 21-year-old Ness City man was airlifted to Hays Medical Center on Tuesday after he was shot with a shotgun.
According to Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple, shortly after noon Tuesday a group of boys were handling a 12-gauge shotgun when it accidentally went off, hitting Andrew Bell in the right shoulder area.
Whipple said Bell was in serious but stable condition when he was transported to HaysMed.
No other details on his condition have been made available.
Whipple said the 16-year-old who was handling the gun believed it was not loaded, and the shooting was accidental.
The sheriff’s department will turn over its information to the county attorney, who will make a decision on whether charges will result.
