RUSSELL, Kan – A Russell man was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of criminal possession of explosives and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers found what appeared to be an explosive device.
At approximately 5:05 p.m. Monday, June 30th the Russell Police Department received a report of a person making an explosive device and threatening to plant a device in the at a residence in the 900 block of east seventh street in Russell.
A Russell Police office found an object that appeared to be a home-made explosive device.
The Kansas Highway Patrol bomb removal unit was called in to help remove and destroy the device.
According to the Russell Police Department while executing the search warrant for the possible explosive device, drug paraphernalia was found in the residence and taken as evidence.
JD Heil of Russell was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of Explosives and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
An investigation into the incident continues.
