WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Two conservative Kansas congressmen who swept into office four years ago during a tea party surge are locked in acrimonious primary races.

The 4th District GOP primary pits incumbent Mike Pompeo of Wichita against the man who previously held the seat, Todd Tiahrt.

In the 1st District, political newcomer Alan LaPolice is challenging U.S. Rep. Tim Huelskamp, exploiting discontent with Huelskamp’s stances on agricultural issues and his squabbles with GOP leaders.

Elsewhere, Republican U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder is unopposed but will have a Democratic opponent in the 3rd District. Two Democrats are vying for their party’s nomination.

In the 2nd District of eastern Kansas, U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins faces a long-shot GOP challenge from Joshua Tucker of Pittsburg. The winner faces Democrat Margie Wakefield, a Lawrence attorney.
