SALINA, Kan — A rural Saline County teen showed no emotion Tuesday morning in court as she was charged with first-degree murder in the death of her younger sister last Friday morning .
Sierra Neihaus, 14, is accused of stabbing her 13-year-old sister Galazia Niehaus at a home in rural northwest Saline County in the early morning hours of Aug. 1. Law enforcement was notified of the stabbing about 1:45 a.m.
After reading the charge, Judge Patrick Thompson ordered Sierra Neihaus to remain in custody.
Her parents were not in the courtroom, but grandparents were present. Thompson set the next court date for 11 a.m. Sept. 5. The Saline County Attorney’s Office is considering whether to have Neihaus tried as an adult.
Funeral services for Galazia Niehaus have been scheduled at a cemetery near Hill City.
