A 37-year-old Rice County woman has been sentenced to two years federal probation in connection with a cattle fraud scheme. In addition, Carrie Frederick of Sterling was ordered to pay $80,487 in restitution.
Frederick pleaded guilty to three counts of wire fraud. In her plea, she admitted she embezzled money while she worked for Sellers Farms, Inc., a livestock feeding operation in Lyons. She caused money to be sent from Sellers Farms’ accounts to Golden Belt Feeders, Inc., of St. John, to pay debts she owed from trading cattle when she worked for Golden Belt.
Three transactions involved a total of more than $211,000 in embezzled funds.
